I have a dilemma

This blog is meant to serve many purposes. It will be place for me to ramble about nothing with the illusion that someone is actually interested. It will be a place for me to share profound insights about myself and my journey through completion of my bachelors degree. And most importantly, it will become a journal of sorts about the evolution of my career, and my pursuit of my dream job.

I want to share this blog with the world, and in a way I already am.  It is unrestricted and I have invited several friends to have a look. But I want it to be more. I want to publish links to new posts on Facebook and Twitter. I want to be able to share my random thoughts on life, education, my career, and other random stuff with all of my friends  (as if they’ll be interested).

Like many Americans, my social circle mostly consists of coworkers, former coworkers, and people who are mutual friends of coworkers. Like many American workplaces, my office is a rumor mill.

And that brings me to my dilemma. I am concerned that my friends (and other friendly co-workers that may find their way here) will read my blog and the rumor mill will start churning.

The rumor mill will say “Amanda is looking for a new job.”

But I’m not. Not yet anyway. I like my job. I have an amazing boss. Some day I know I will grow bored or feel the need for a change in order to continue my personal and professional growth. I don’t expect that time to come for quite a while. I don’t want to give anyone the impression that I have imminent plans to leave my job.

I actually really like my boss. I actually really like my boss.

I know what I need to do, but I haven’t yet figured out how. I will talk with my boss about my blog.

I know… You’re thinking “Are you insane? You know people can get fired over dumb stuff like that, right?”

I’m not insane. I’ve talked to my boss about my long-term career goals before and while he thinks that they are a bit silly, he was very understanding and insightful.

My dilemma is this: How do I share the dream with my boss in a way that he won’t over react and will help me share with my friends without creating a stir in the office rumor mill?

Not that I have many readers yet, but people do end up here somehow. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

  1. I prefer anonymity online… I also wouldn’t say things I would not say openly. But then again as someone who knows me that isn’t many things.
Btw, my dream job? Trust fund baby…
